Answers to the questions we are asked most frequently
No. We are a Non-Profit Organization and 100% of donations and proceeds are applied to the Preserve, the birds, and the veterans.
Pheasants are a very aggressive bird and naturally pluck and cannibalize each other, even in the wild. These wounds can lead to infection and death. Installing Peepers on a bird is less invasive than piercing your ears and prevents these damaging attacks while still allowing them to eat and drink normally. It would be inhumane if we didn't use Peepers on our birds.
Absolutely not! During the first 5 weeks, Pheasants cannot regulate their body temperatures because they still don't have all their feathers. This is known as the Brooding period. They are in a smaller enclosed area during this time with lamps and heaters. At 5 weeks, we Peep them, and they go out to an enclosed flight pen with 8-foot-tall netting. They are given a minimum of 15 square feet of ground space for each bird. Our birds live very well and comfortably In our Flight Pen and coops.
In our area of Michigan, definitely yes! We would love the opportunity to bring Pheasants in for a Show and Tell if your educator invites us. You can also find us around Michigan at different community events. Just click the "EVENTS" tab near the top of our page to see where we plan to be.
Yes. We will assist all of our hunters with processing and cleaning their harvest.
We do not have a paid staff. Everyone who helps Camp Bright Bird is a volunteer, including our Board of Directors. We do this because we believe in this nonprofit, and we don't make a dime for doing it.
Yes. Please contact us if you have something you think we could benefit from. At the moment, a gas-powered golf cart to transport disabled veterans is a need.
Of course! We want the public to see what we are doing and be a part of it, but they will not be allowed in the flight pens to reduce the risk of protozoan parasites like coccidiosis or viral avian influenzas. They can be viewed from the outside of the Flight Pen. We can bring one outside for you to interact with.
Thank You For Supporting Camp Bright Bird!
